Potential First Ladies: Ann Romney
64One of Her Husband's Greatest Assets
Ann Romney has been by her husband's side for over 40 years and from all accounts, she is truly one of his greatest assets. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1998, she credits the disease's remission to both mainstream and alternative medicine. Her approach to her diagnosis seems to mirror that of her approach to life - holistic.
Fast Facts:
- Born on April 16, 1949
- Hometown: Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
- Married Mitt Romney on April 21, 1969
- Five Children: Ben, Craig, Josh, Matt and Tagg
Career/Causes
While Mitt Romney focused on business and politics, Ann Romney focused on the business of raising her family. A devoted mother of five children and grandmother to sixteen, she didn't stop there and has a long list of causes that she supports. Although her support of the MS Society came for obvious reasons, she has been a long time supporter of charities and organizations that focus on children. As the First Lady of Massachusetts during her husband's term as Governor, she served as the Governor's Liaison for Faith Based and Community Initiatives with a strong focus on at-risk youth and the welfare of children. A longtime supporter of the United Way, she is a member of the Faith and Action Committee which focuses its efforts on urban church programs for at-risk youth. Mrs. Romney has also participated in equine therapy for disabled children and lent her support to literacy efforts.
Final Thoughts
If her time as the First Lady of Massachusetts and her husband's supporter on the campaign trail are any indication, it would seem that Ann Romney would make an excellent First Lady of the United States. Her focus on family paired with her support of children lead me to believe that she would carry that same focus and devotion to the national stage.
